An article titled “Ocean grabbing” has recently been published in the Marine Policy journal. The article, written by Nathan J. Bennett (TBTI member), Hugh Govan and Terre Satterfield, discusses ocean grabbing, referred to as acts of dispossession or appropriation of marine resources or spaces. The article provides a definition and examples of reallocations of marine resources or spaces that might constitute ocean grabbing. It presents a framework to evaluate conservation or development initiatives for ocean grabbing and proposes a systematic program of research into the phenomenon of ocean grabbing.
