On and By the Water

Author: Svein Jentoft*

In his recent article, Svein Jentoft examines the position of small-scale fisheries in the era of Blue Economy and Blue Growth and highlights the risk of excluding small-scale fishers from the discussion table. He argues that without a proper implementation of the Small-Scale Fisheries Guidelines, which includes ‘preferential treatment’ of small-scale fisheries and the importance of protecting, respecting, and advancing their human rights, the current Blue Economy and Blue Growth agendas will be detrimental for the livelihoods of small-scale fishers.

The article builds on Svein Jentoft's keynote address at the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Fisheries, held at Sylhet, Bangladesh, 25-27, August 2019.
