Improved data needed on small-scale fisheries

Daniel Pauly and Tony Charles recently wrote a letter in Science about small-scale fisheries data needs. In it, they urge for an improved reporting of catch data that distinguishes between industrial and small-scale fisheries. This is necessary to ensure the effective implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication, adopted on June 10, 2014 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
